BIG recovered from the lower-bracket map deficit in the grand final of cs_summit 6 Europe to win the tournament over Vitality, 3-2 (0-1 Default, 16-8 Mirage, 11-16 Inferno, 16-10 Dust2, 16-10 Overpass).
The two cs_summit 6 Europe grand finalists, Vitality and BIG, had met earlier in the tournament, in the upper-bracket final, with the hard-fought series ending in Vitality's favor (14-16 Mirage, 16-13 Inferno, 16-12 Dust2). A similar map pool was on the cards today in the BO5, with the Frenchmen having a one-map advantage due to coming from the upper-bracket.
Just like in DreamHack Masters Summer Europe where they faced G2, BIG bounced back from a 0-1 start to the series, won Mirage, Dust2, and Overpass, while dropping Inferno, to take the match 3-2. The cs_summit 6 Europe win secured the Gemran side $34,000 as well as 2000 much-needed Regional Major Ranking points, which put the German side in the running for the ESL One Rio Major.
BIG started off Mirage on the Terrorist side and in good form, going 5-0 up after pistol round success and some good entry work from Tizian "tiziaN" Feldbusch. Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut's 4K with the AWP got Vitality on the board, but BIG persevered, securing a 7-2 advantage early on. Then, Richard "shox" Papillon hit a higher gear to keep his side in the game as the Frenchmen minimized the deficit to one before the switch.
Moving on to the CT side, BIG won the pistol and pulled off a bonus round win with an A push (10-7), after which Florian "syrsoN" Rische and tiziaN resolved a 2v2 to go up 13-8. In the final rounds, the German side's double AWP worked perfectly, with Nils "k1to" Gruhne proving pivotal as they locked down Mirage, 16-8.
Vitality responded on Inferno, their map pick, by going up 7-1 on the defense. ZywOo was the star of the early game, clutching a 1v4 in round four to allow the strong run, before Ismailcan "XANTARES" Dörtkardeş pulled off a quad kill and syrsoN managed a 1v3 to break Vitality's money. That set up a comeback, with XANTARES going on to finish the 8-7 half with 21K-9D.
A pistol win for the Frenchmen and a key 3v5 turnaround in round 20 gave Vitality the momentum in the second half, sitting well ahead at 13-8. BIG put up a fight to reach 11 rounds, but Cédric "RpK" Guipouy's double nade entry stop the comeback and Vitality followed up with good play on Banana to close out the map, 16-11.
After k1to's quad kill on the second round force, BIG managed to take control of the game on Dust2, looking comfortable on the Terrorist side. The score was 5-2 when Kévin "misutaaa" Rabier started showing some form, helping Vitality win three out of four rounds (6-5), but BIG bounced back to finish strong, 10-5.
In the second half, Vitality won the pistol only to again lose to the force buy, seeing the Germans assume a 13-5 advantage. Dan "apEX" Madesclaire's team found sporadic success, but despite putting BIG in an economic hole at 14-10, weren't able to convert against pistols which ended their chances on Dust2. BIG took a 16-10 victory and tied up the series, 2-2.
Low-buy wins from both sides on Overpass made for a chaotic start to the final map of the series, but Vitality grabbed the upper hand and went up 5-3 on the offensive side. After a, for his standards, average performance across the first three maps, ZywOo started hitting his stride on Overpass, pushing his team to an 8-7 lead with three opening kills and five multikill rounds.
What looked like a good map for Vitality slipped out of their hands after the switch, as the pistol went BIG's way and the Germans looked unstoppable going into the bombsites, consistently winning the trade frag game (14-8). Clutch play from shox and misutaaa kept Vitality alive for a bit, but BIG soon closed out the map, 16-10, to win the series.
